Tootle: The fans spurred us on

Full back says supporters played crucial role in cup win

Notts County defender Matt Tootle says the ‘positive atmosphere’ inside Meadow Lane was crucial to the team as they beat Bristol Rovers on Friday.

The Magpies came from two goals down to win 4-2, securing their place in tonight’s Emirates FA Cup second-round draw.

And October’s Player of the Month praised the Notts support for their brilliant backing on the night.

“Obviously, the game didn’t start the way we wanted,” said Tootle after the match. “But our fans stuck right behind us and spurred us on to turn the game around. There was such a positive atmosphere inside the stadium.

“Even at 0-2 we were still confident of winning the tie due to the home form we have built under the gaffer. The patience and support of the fans played a massive part.

“They have been brilliant home and away all season and, as players, we’re determined to repay that by continuing to compete at the top of the table and by going as far as we can in the cups.”

Notts are next in home action on Saturday 18 November, when Cheltenham Town are the visitors.
