Notts County Snap Up Highly-Rated Newton On Loan

13 February 2015

Notts County have signed highly-rated defender Sean Newton on loan until the end of the season from Vanarama Conference Premier side Lincoln City.

Newton began his career with Chester City and went on to play for Southport, Droylsden, Barrow and AFC Telford before spending the 2012.13 season with Stockport County, who he signed a permanent deal with after a successful loan spell.

After a season at Stockport the defender moved to Lincoln City in the summer of 2013, signing a two-year deal, and has gone on to catch the eye with some standout performances that have attracted the interest of a number of Football League clubs.

However, the 26-year-old has now agreed to join Notts on loan until the end of the season, having passed a medical at Meadow Lane on Friday morning and put pen-to-paper on his deal before joining his new team-mates at training.

As Newton arrives at Notts from Lincoln, defender Jordan Cranston has headed in the opposite direction, joining the Imps on loan until the end of the season and he will now be in line to make his debut in the home game against Chester on Saturday.
