Ardley: Our approach stays the same

Squad rotation likely on Saturday

Neal Ardley says the postponement of Tuesday night’s Vanarama National League match against Bromley has not changed our approach to this weekend’s Buildbase FA Trophy trip to Havant & Waterlooville.

The boss has so far used the Trophy as an opportunity to hand game-time to those who need it most and, despite an unexpected rest for our recent starting XI in midweek, this policy is likely to continue on Saturday.

“We had a plan of how we were going to get through this week and we’re going to stick to that, despite Tuesday’s postponement,” said Ardley.

“We’re not going to change what we do – we just need to make sure the synergy between the players is there and that they know what to expect from Havant.

“It’s a 3G pitch and Havant were doing well in their league before it was suspended.

“They’ve got various threats - Tommy Wright, who I know from his Sutton days, is always looking to play on the shoulder and has goals in him, and Danny Kedwell, who I know well from AFC Wimbledon, is an absolute handful physically and aerially despite being in the latter stages of his career.

“I’ve played against Paul Doswell’s teams loads of times and I’ve never had an easy game, so I’m not expecting one on their home pitch in a cup competition with Wembley on the horizon.”

Apart from long-term absentees Cal Roberts and Damien McCrory, as well as cup-tied forward Inih Effiong, Ardley confirmed he will have a full squad to choose from for the journey to Hampshire.
