All about the win

Not great but we did enough, says Ardley

28 September 2019

Neal Ardley admits Notts County didn’t perform how he’d like during their victory over AFC Fylde on Saturday but that the result was all that mattered.

Goals from Wes Thomas and Damien McCrory – the latter's first for the club – fired the Magpies to back-to-back wins for the first time this season, despite the visitors enjoying spells of pressure.

And Ardley was pleased with the way his side ground out the points.

“It’s all about the win,” said the boss. “We weren’t great but people have gone home happy with the result.

“I’ve spoken before about us being good between the boxes and performing well but not getting the result we should have done.

“I thought Fylde were really good and today we got the boxes right and dug in to grind out the result, which is what you need to do in this league."

More than 9,000 supporters were in attendance at Meadow Lane to see Notts go five home matches unbeaten and Ardley reserved praise for the fans, who created an excellent atmosphere throughout the match.

“They were brilliant,” he smiled. “They praised really good defending and the saves Sam Slocombe made when called upon.

“It’s our responsibility to get them excited and I didn’t think we gave them enough to shout about but in the moments we did they were electric.”
