Vanarama's fanarama!

A review of 2019 from the Meadow Lane stands

13 December 2019

Notts fan Michael Dunrey offers league sponsors Vanarama his unique take on the year and tells his supporter story.

The half-way stage has already been and gone - can you sum things up so far?

We’ve shown in patches the talent we have at our disposal but too often complacency has set in and bang, we’ve been caught out. It’s certainly not an arrogance thing, getting a team winning every week after a bad few years isn’t going to happen overnight.

Is the ‘Notts factor’ playing it’s part?

Every side raises their game it seems but it’s something we have to accept. But it’s not just that, we haven’t been good enough often enough - now we need to get a great run together like we did a few months ago, which we are more than capable of doing.

Star of the season so far?

Kyle Wootton and Wes Thomas haven’t let themselves down. Neither has Regan Booty when he has played.

So what does 2020 hold?

Better things. It’s got to! I believe we will rally and make the play-offs. Nobody will want to come here for a game of that size so it’s not just a case of getting in the top seven it’s finishing as high as we can.

If you can wrap up one Christmas gift for your manager, what would it be?

Maybe another defender who has had success at this level before. Letting in 16 goals since the start of November tells its own story.

Pick your National League title winner...

We are probably too far back now, even if we get on a run. Barrow were outstanding here last month and should have enough. I actually don’t think they have better players than Notts but it’s not always the point.

The Christmas and New Year calendar - love it or hate it?

It’s not ideal if you try to go to every game like I do. I am not a fan of five games in two weeks or whatever it is.

What’s your high point of 2019?

There hasn’t been too many if you want me to be honest. If I have to pick, winning 4-0 at Woking gave the impression we were a brilliant side.

Your most memorable away day so far this season?

Has to be Ebbsfleet United away in the FA Cup. A winner with the last kick of the game aren’t moments you ever forget.

When did you first start following your club?

That was back in 1981 and I don’t remember it as I was too young but I was told the Villa game was my first ever match.

What makes the Notts so special?

It’s a proper football club with more history than anyone else. The fans are the thick and thin type. Many would have run a mile after some tough times but even now we are by far and away the best supported side in the division.

The National League’s leasing partner Vanarama have this season launched the Club Reward scheme to help fans back their club’s budget. Every time a fan takes out a brand new van lease with Vanarama or a brand new car lease with Motorama their club will earn £100 and you will receive £30 cashback!
