A pleasing performance

Kewell delighted with display against Crawley

2 October 2018

Notts County manager Harry Kewell says he was happier with the performance than the result after seeing his side beat Crawley Town 3-1.

It was a convincing win that secured back-to-back victories for the Magpies, whose unbeaten run now stands at four matches.

But for Kewell it was the nature of the display that was most pleasing on an autumnal evening at Meadow Lane.

“I’m very happy with the result but more happy with the performance,” he said. “We did the ugly side of football and got our rewards.

“We stuck in there in moments when the tide was turning a little bit but then we pounced and looked compact and steady.

“Crawley had one or two shots from distance but one in 50 of those go in.

“I’m proud of the players because it’s been a tough week. We’ve got back-to-back wins now and we can push on.”

Next up for Kewell’s men is a trip to Moss Rose on Saturday.

“We’ve started something, now we have to continue it,” said Kewell. “Macclesfield  drew 3-3 at Newport tonight and it will be a tough game - we have to be prepared for that.

“We’ll enjoy this moment but, come tomorrow, we focus on Macclesfield.”
