Bringing in the crowds

10 February 2017

Notts County forward Shola Ameobi is backing Alan Hardy's campaign to bring big crowds to Meadow Lane.

The chairman is offering £12 adult tickets and free under 12s' for this weekend's Sky Bet League Two clash with Cheltenham Town.

And new signing Ameobi is happy to have joined a club that recognises the importance of its home support.

The Nigerian said: "The chairman is trying to create an atmosphere and that can only help the team. We want the fans to come in their droves and egg us on because it makes a big difference.

"Regardless of what level you're playing at, having the fans behind you will give you confidence. Hopefully we can repay their faith by putting in good performances and winning games.

"Over the years there have been big crowds here but ultimately it's the players who have to fill the seats by winning games and playing well. It's about creating that feel-good factor within the club."

Amoebi was a second-half substitute at Accrington Stanley last weekend and is one of seven players in contention to make their home debuts against Cheltenham - an exciting prospect for the 35-year-old frontman.

He said: "Every debut you make is special and it'll be a great occasion, but ultimately we're looking for three points.

"That'll be the best thing for me, regardless of whether I play or not."
