A big occasion

12 August 2016

Notts County’s Matt Tootle says the first home match of the season is an occasion he always looks forward to.

The summer signing played every minute of Notts’ opening two matches of the campaign, away trips to Yeovil and Scunthorpe, but he is now looking forward to showing the Meadow Lane faithful what he’s capable of.

He said: “I really enjoy the first home game of the season so I’m looking forward to it.

“I hope we can make Meadow Lane a fortress this season - I think that’s going to be important for us.

“We need to do everything we can on Saturday to make sure we get something out of the game. It’s going to be important to restore that faith straightaway.

“I wouldn’t worry massively over the last two. Obviously it’s not the start we’d have hoped for, but I think it’s definitely going to improve.”

Tootle arrived at Notts in June and has thoroughly enjoyed his time at the Lane so far.

He said: “Last year, when I signed for Shrewsbury, it was the total opposite. I never felt like I settled in but I’ve been here a month and it feels like home already.

“I’ve really enjoyed it up to now. The staff and players here have really welcomed me and it feels like the kind of club I need at this time of my career.”
