As part of a new feature on the Notts County FC official site, we look back on some photos from the archives.
Our first pictures the club’s greatest ever manager Jimmy Sirrel with local rivals Nottingham Forest’s best boss of all time Brian Clough.
The photograph was taken on 21 August 1985 on Trent Bridge - half way between Meadow Lane and the City Ground.
The newspaper extract states:
Jimmy Sirrel and Brian Clough team-up - to show they’re playing together for the future of football.
They met on Trent Bridge to promote Top Score, the new football pool being run by football clubs for the benefit of football.
It seems to be for the benefit of punters, too. For its top pay-out from last week’s games was bigger than the highest dividends of the traditional pools company.
The club would like to thank Bowles Associates for supporting the NCFC History archives.
Look out for more classic photographs every Thursday.
