Great Start To 2014

2 January 2014

First team manager Shaun Derry was pleased with the way that Notts County responded to back-to-back defeats in a 3-0 triumph over Bradford City.

The victory kicked off 2014 in the best possible way, as the Magpies climbed off the bottom of the table and closed the gap on the teams outside the bottom four to three points.

Notts have a weekend to recover from the busy Christmas period but can now head into the six-pointer with Sheffield United on 11 January full of confidence.

“Before the game we went into the game on the back of two defeats, which knocked our mentality more than anything else, and we needed to really lift the boys,” said Derry.

“Thankfully they responded and it worked out to be a great victory for all of us.

“I’m chuffed for everyone because when you lose in the manner that we did against Crawley you’re questioning and my questions have been answered.”

He continued: “I’m happy but I don’t want to get too carried away with it because we’re still in the smelly stuff.

“I know what the group can do and I don’t want them to do what we did against Crawley.

“I just thought the response was fantastic and it was a real mental game for us.”

County are currently fifth in the Sky Bet League 1 form table, based on the most recent six fixtures.
