RAF Magpie's Day To Remember

3 December 2013

At the recent Brentford game, the club gave one of our supporters that had been serving in the RAF a day to remember.

Big Notts fan Mitchel Whiley had contacted the club about a competition with his squadron that would see the best response from their respective clubs win a crate of soft drinks.

Mitch claimed the prize after receiving a video message and an invitation to join us for a day behind the scenes on a match day.

Mitch, who had just returned from a stint in Afghanistan, got to enjoy a stadium tour, an executive seat in the Derek Pavis Stand and the chance to meet the manager, Shaun Derry, ahead of the game.

“I would like to thank the club for making it an unbelievable day - I felt part of the family and I’m very grateful for the experience because it’s every fans dream to meet your heroes," said Mitch.

“Meeting the manager was a nerve racking experience but he made us feel really welcome and was really friendly.

“It also made me realise the work he has and pressure but he seems to be implementing the right ethic at the club and experimenting players in different roles to try and find the right formula.”

Mitch got a number of unexpected surprises on the day as well, including a gift from one of the players.

“I got to meet my favourite player Gary Liddle and Les Bradd but gained a new favorite in Jack Grealish, who gave me his shirt to top off the day.

“It is being framed and taking pride place in my house it is just one of many mementos I have from the day, but the memories will stay in my head forever.”
