Enoch Pleased To Be Off The Mark

3 August 2013

Enoch Showunmi came off the bench to net a superb equaliser in Friday night’s Sky Bet League 1 opener with Sheffield United and he hopes that it is a sign of things to come.

The striker found the net with a superb 20-yard hit into the bottom-left corner just two minutes after being introduced to the action.

Notts fought out more than 75 minutes with 10 men against a difficult Sheffield United outfit at Bramall Lane and Showunmi’s finish was certainly the highlight for the impressive away support.

The 31-year-old is now eager to earn himself a starting spot by tucking away goals on a regular basis throughout 2013.14.

He told Magpie Player: “It felt great [to get the goal], especially after my first season at Notts so it was great to come off the bench.

“I was obviously disappointed not to start but the only way you can put your claim in for starts is if you score.

“I feel really fit and I’ve played a lot of minutes this pre-season and it’s been a good workout.

“Last season I picked up a little injury but that’s not happened this year.

“I’ve been able to train every day and I feel fit and raring to go.”

Showunmi was disappointed that his goal was not enough to earn something from the match but took plenty of encouragement from the battling performance at Bramall Lane.

He added: “It was disappointing but we leave with our heads held high.

“It’s a tough venue and not a lot of teams will pick up points there.

“Hopefully we can go into the next game and obviously with 11 men we can stamp our game on the match and pick up the wins that we need.

“I think we need to get that first win under our belts as quick as possible.

“Hopefully we can go out in midweek, especially in front of our own fans, and pick up a win.”

Notts are back in action on Wednesday night at Meadow Lane for the Capital One Cup clash with Fleetwood Town.
