Showunmi Hails Youth Impact

15 April 2013

Striker Enoch Showunmi has heaped praise on the squad’s promising youngsters, following their impressive performances in the weekend’s win over Colchester United.

Tyrell Waite, 18, and Curtis Thompson, 19, were handed their full Football League debuts and were joined in the starting 11 by youth team graduate Haydn Hollis, 20,

Under-18 forward Romello Nangle also came off the bench to net his first ever career goal that capped off a day that left the County fans upbeat about the club’s future talent.

Showunmi provided the assist for Nangle’s goal and was delighted for the 18-year-old.

“He’s a quick young lad with a great strike and he’s done alright in the training sessions that I’ve seen him in,” he said.

“I’m glad he’s got the goal and I’m proud of him.

“He’s a really quiet lad and he didn’t say anything but I think he’s just over the moon that he’s got his first career goal.”

He continued: “For all the young lads it’s a boost and they’re going to come in and play their hearts out.

“If they earn their contracts for next season they could be playing week in, week out, you never know.

“It’s up to them to take their chance and I thought Curtis [Thompson] and Tyrell [Waite], and obviously Romello when he’s come on, they’ve done themselves no harm.

“It was a good performance and I felt that we deserved to win.”
