Magic Moments In The Making

30 October 2012

Let’s make it another cup run to remember…

Get behind the Magpies this weekend when we kick-off our FA Cup with Budweiser campaign.

Keith Curle’s side will make the long trip to Fratton Park for a tough first round encounter with npower League 1 rivals Portsmouth.

The team needs the biggest following possible to spur them onto victory and help to kick-start another exciting, money-spinning journey in the tournament.

In recent years, Notts have created some fantastic memories for fans in the FA Cup.

Last season saw County reach the fourth round, with the highlight of the run being the triumph over then-Championship outfit Doncaster Rovers in the third round – an unforgettable afternoon, which saw Jeff Hughes strike twice in a 2-0 scoreline.

2010.11 was even more exciting, after triumphs over Gateshead and Bournemouth set up a tie with Premier League Sunderland.

Goals from Craig Westcarr and Lee Hughes gave us a remarkable 2-1 win on that day, with 2,677 Notts fans travelling to the Stadium of Light.

On to the fourth round – one of the biggest highlights in recent club history – a 1-1 draw with top-flight giants Manchester City, courtesy of Neal Bishop’s superb header in front of a sell-out Meadow Lane crowd.

Even the replay, a 5-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, was a fantastic day out that will not be forgotten any time soon.

2009.10 provided more unforgettable moments and scalps of big-name clubs, as the League 2 Magpies battled into the fourth round – a home tie with Premier League Wigan Athletic.

Following an impressive 2-2 draw at Meadow Lane, many felt the Magpies had no chance in the replay at the DW Stadium…

That was certainly not the case, because a Stephen Hunt finish and a Gary Caldwell own goal booked Notts’ place in the fifth round and a trip to Craven Cottage.

Another spirited performance was produced but Fulham came out on top, though the thousands of County supporters in attendance could not have been prouder of their side.

This year’s FA Cup, we hope, will provide more magic moments, so make sure you’re there in the flesh – you won’t regret it.

You can re-live some of these moments on Magpie Player, as we count down to the big game.
