Curle: We'll Put This Right

28 October 2012

Manager disappointed with defensive performance after loss to Doncaster Rovers…

Keith Curle has vowed to iron out the defensive mistakes that have cost the Magpies so many points on home turf this term.

Notts were defeated 2-0 by Doncaster Rovers on Saturday after errors at the back allowed Paul Keegan and Chris Brown to strike in the second period.

The result means that County have lost four of the most recent five matches at Meadow Lane.

Curle was frustrated by the goals conceded and is demanding more from his players.

He said: “If I’m honest about it, it was poor defending – shocking defending.

“It’s not about formations or tactics, if you don’t defend your 18-yard box and you don’t pick up people that are going into your 18-yard box, the likelihood is that they’re going to put the ball in your net.

“That’s basic, infantile defending.

“We’ll go back to the drawing board, we’ll go back to the training ground and we will see it through.”

He continued: “Being honest, footballers are fragile people with a fragile mentality but they need to man up.

“It’s a game of football and as soon as you go across that white line, you’ve got to be a determined animal.

“That means you’ve got to be aggressive because there’s points at stake and we need those points.

“Letting someone put the balls into your box cannot happen, not with the ease that we’ve been doing it at home.”
