Notts topped the group in the Midlands Youth Cup...

The Notts Youth Team marched into the semi-finals of the Midland Youth Cup after topping the group and beating Grimsby Town 2-1 at Meadow Lane on Monday night.

After falling behind in the first half, the team rallied round and scored twice in the second period from an own-goal and long distance strike from Romello Nangle to take them into the next stage.

A delighted Youth Team Coach Brett Adams told the Official Site: “We stuck to the game plan in the second half. We were poor in the first half. We asked them to press on high up the pitch, we will get the ball back and this will create chances for us.

“That wasn’t happening in the first half. They had too much time on the ball. So we reverted back to the original game plan and you could see it in the first minute of the second half the impact. We got a corner, got a chance and went on from there.

“Some of the football in the second half was as good as we’ve been this season. I am massively proud of all of them.

“The lads are celebrating like they’ve won the world cup, it means a lot to them, to win here at Meadow Lane, infront of the fans and the Management Team.

“They should enjoy it and have feelings like that. They’ve worked hard for it and good things happen when you work for it.”

It gave the team a chance to play infront of the supporters in a stadium environment and the squad was chuffed with the support they gave.

Adams added: “I would also like to give a massive thanks to all the supporters, friends and families that have come down.

“We are so appreciative. It means so much to us. Hopefully they will see what we are doing with a very young team and hopefully get them in the Development Squad to continue their progression.

“I’m excited to see who we get in the Semi-Finals, hopefully we can get another home fixture here again. It was a hugely positive night.”

The Youth Team have one more game before Christmas, as they make the small trip to Chesterfield on December 8 for a 11am kick-off.
