Striker returns from injury to fire three past Ilkeston...

It was a dream start to pre-season for youth team striker Malachi Moore this afternoon, after the frontman netted a hat-trick in a 3-1 triumph over Ilkeston youth team.

Moore, a second year scholar, missed the entire 2011.12 campaign with a cruciate ligament injury but has worked closely with the Meadow Lane medical team to make a full recovery.

Notts went a goal down against the Robins at South Nottingham College, only for Moore to come off the bench to great effect.

The promising 17-year-old's first two goals were headed finishes, thanks to deliveries from midfielders Kyle Dixon and Mitchell Clarke respectively.

Moore added his third late on, turning smartly on the edge of the box to fire into the bottom corner.

Youth team coach Brett Adams was delighted with the goal-scorer's impressive return to action.

He told Magpie Player: “It’s a great story, Malachi had been out for a year and a half with a cruciate ligament injury and we didn’t want to rush him back into it so we put him on in the second half.

“We happened to be trailing the game 1-0, which probably wasn’t a true reflection of the game, because we dominated the first half and made errors that we’re going to make at this stage of pre-season.

“Malachi’s come on and scored two headers and he’s finished off one with his right foot from the edge of the 18-yard box, which was a fantastic finish.

“He’s worked really hard and I’m really, really pleased for him and the staff are as well.”
