Throwback Thursday: Great Scot McCulloch

18 September 2014

Notts County's Braveheart Iain McCulloch features in our Throwback Thursday this week…

The former Notts striker was one of the key players in a fantastic era in the club's history, leading the Magpies to promotion to Division One.

A true fans favourite, he was 100% committed every time he put the Notts shirt on and he could score a goal or two too!

Playing either on the wing or upfront, he created a great partnership with Trevor Christie, the pair helping the Magpies gain promotion to the top flight in 1979.80.

A scorer of crucial goals including the final goal in that season and the first the following year, famously at Villa Park.

The Kilmarnock-born forward played 259 times for Notts and scored 54 times.

Here is pictured winning the Player of the Year award in 1981.82.

Join the conversation on the club's Facebook and Twitter Pages as we ask, who was the greatest Scottish player to play at Meadow Lane for Notts? Let us know your thoughts.

The club would like to thank Bowles Associates, JMS Photography, Action Images, Dan Westwell and the Nottingham Post for supporting the NCFC History archives.

Look out for more classic photographs every Thursday.
