The CardioWall, Rugged Interactive’s leading motivational fitness product, has recently been commissioned to measure players’ reaction times as part of the Notts County Academy pre-season assessment tests, according to Senior Academy Physio Tony Tompos.
A research project undertaken by Notts County FC’s sports science team has shown a strong correlation between reaction speed on the CardioWall and reaction speed on the pitch.
This exciting development will now enable the Academy’s coaching team to complement their core on-field football skills analysis with gym-based reaction testing when assessing talented prospects.

Tony Tompos, the Notts County Youth Team Physiotherapist, said: “Testing reaction speeds is a key factor for any football team. Using the CardioWall as part of our weekly academy training sessions has really helped my team identify those players with the quickest reaction times on the pitch and those that need additional training plans to improve their reaction speed.
“And the great thing about it is that we can use it to benchmark the players’ reaction speeds throughout the season.”
The CardioWall is a highly versatile product and challenges users to balance, stretch, squat, reach and think. It motivates users to achieve a high intensity workout in a few short minutes, and can test reaction speed and peripheral vision – or as in the case of Notts County can be used as a basis of sports-specific training programmes.
