Another friendly clash awaits the youth team...

Notts County youth team are in action again on Wednesday afternoon, with a pre-season clash against Charlton Athletic under-18s.

The young Magpies kicked off their campaign with a 3-1 triumph over Ilkeston FC youth team on Friday afternoon, courtesy of a hat-trick from Malachi Moore.

Youth team coach Brett Adams has been pleased with the early stages of his squad’s preparations for the 2012.13 campaign and is looking for more improvements in the Addicks fixture.

“I think we need to learn to keep the ball a bit better, because our ethos in the academy is to play football and look for opportunities to get in behind the opponents,” Adams told Magpie Player.

“I think we made some rash decisions with the ball against Ilkeston and we’ll be working hard on that.

“They obviously need to get match fit but we’ve got five games in pre-season where that’s going to be worked on, as well as the endurance sessions that we’re going to do with them.

“Everything we do until the start of the season is going to be ball work, as well as the match stuff, so we’ll work hard and make sure that everyone gets a match DVD so that they can see the mistakes that they’ve made.”

Adams also praised the new batch of first-year scholars, who have stepped up from the club’s academy this summer.

He continued: “They’ve got a brilliant attitude, they want to work hard and they want to learn.

“That’s a good start base but they’ve got a long way to go and we’re not going to expect miracles from them straight away.

“We’ve got two years to get them up to the standard that we need to get them up to.

“Hopefully, given time and given patience, they’ll be there and doing the best they possibly can for this football club.”

The match against Charlton will kick-off at 2pm at Oakham School Playing Fields, Chapel Close, Market Place, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 7QH.
