Hard Work On The Training Pitch Paying Off

17 August 2014

The Youth Team again impressed as they played out a 1-1 away draw against Burton Albion on Saturday...

Notts took the lead in the 28th minute thanks to a clever set-play which meant forward Alex Kenlock could flick home a deserved header.

But the Magpies were pegged back in the second half as the hosts took control and soon equalised.

The result meant a second 1-1 draw of the season and plenty of positives for Head of Academy Coaching Mick Halsall.

He told the Official Site: “We started really well and dominated the opening 25-minutes or so and deservedly took the lead midway through the first half.

“I was delighted to see the hard work from the training pitch, happen in a game situation.

“We worked on it on Friday and changed a few things around. It was a great delivery, good movement and Alex has put it in.

“But unfortunately we lost one of our star performers in Rhys Myers through a cut to his face and we were forced into a change.

“That seemed to lift them and affected us, losing one of our defenders in the back four. Myers was really dominant whilst on the pitch and it gave them the impetus.

“We did have further chances though to double our lead and we really should have done. Both Alex (Kenlock) and Bish (Colby Bishop) had shots saved before the break.

“They came out a different side and we dropped off a little and they got a deserved equaliser.

“It was interesting to sit down with the lads afterwards and get their feedback.

“They suggested maybe a bit of complacency came into their minds after a terrific first half.

“We continued to try to play our game, but they were very attack minded.”

The Youth Team face Hull City on Saturday at Arnold Town with a 11am kick-off. Supporters are welcome to come and watch the game.
