The striker spoke to the local media ahead of the crucial match against Doncaster Rovers at Meadow Lane.
Thompson told Magpie Player: “It’s one of the biggest games in my career, definitely. Three points could change totally everything at this stage.
“We know Doncaster are a good side, but they don’t have anything to play for and we’ve got everything to play for.
“If you can’t be up for the game on Saturday, then you shouldn’t be a footballer really. It’s massive. I can’t wait for the game to start because we owe the fans, especially at home, a performance.
“Everyone is focussed. Everyone is itching to go. It’s a massive game. We’ve been poor at home.
“The last few performances have given us some confidence and we will go into it, being a must win, and everyone has that drive and determination to stay in this league.
“The home crowd is massive. They spur you on and give you belief. The fans have been superb this year and hopefully we can sign off with a victory tomorrow.”
