Manager Shaun Derry has told the media that he feels the club has come a long way since our last meeting with Oldham Athletic at the end of last season.
Notts boss Derry sat down with the media on Thursday to preview our Sky Bet League 1 match against Oldham here at Meadow Lane on Saturday and began by saying how happy he was with his squad, having fielded a back line featuring four 21-year-olds in the past two games.Derry told the assembled media: "I mentioned after the game on Tuesday how proud I am of the boys. Every day it’s a pleasure to work with the lads, but we’re not going to get carried away, of course we’re not.
"I don’t want us to get too carried away with the ageism that’s flying around football at this moment in time, I just want us to be judged on what happens, especially on a matchday, it’s so important that the blend’s right and I feel, at this moment in time, the blend’s right."
Looking ahead to this weekend's game, Notts fans will have fond memories of the last meeting between the two sides, when Derry's side claimed the point at Boundary Park that ensured our League 1 safety last season and the Notts Manager feels that the club have come a long way since that day.
"I think we’ve come quite far as a club, not just on the field," he added. "There seems to be now a feel-good factor around the club and everybody’s enjoying it I think. You’d have to speak to the people behind the scenes, but from the conversations that I’ve had, everybody’s happy to be working for Notts County and I feel that the backing we’ve had from the fans, both home and away, has been exactly how I would have wanted it to be.
"There’s been a big difference since May 3. That was a crunch day, not just for Notts County as a League 1 football club, but for Notts County as a football club in general, it was a crunch day that result and we’re thankful that we managed to come out of it for the better.
"This is a new group of guys. There’s only a handful of guys who are going to be involved this weekend who played a part last year, so it’s another game for us and that’s what we’re going to look at.
"For me I felt they were two really good points that we’ve managed to gain throughout the week and if we can back that up with three on Saturday we’ll be absolutely delighted, but it’s still early doors in the season.
"Oldham are a good team. I thought they were a good team last year as well, Lee’s got them playing really well, I think they’re unbeaten in five themselves so we’re going to have a really tough game on Saturday."
