CK: We Should Have Won Sooner

9 October 2013

First team manager Chris Kiwomya was delighted to see his team book their place in the Northern Section Quarter Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

However, he felt that the game should have been done and dusted before the penalty shoot-out, after the Magpies delivered a dominant performance against Sky Bet League 1 high-flyers Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing resulted in a goalless outcome at Molineux.

In the penalty shoot-out, top finishes by Danny Haynes, Joss Labadie and Mark Fotheringham, as well as a decisive save from Fabian Spiess, saw Notts progress.

Kiwomya said: “We deserved to be up at half time and I was disappointed that we weren’t, then we came out in the second half and should have scored another goal.

“We kept going at it playing football the right way and I’m very pleased with the performance of all the boys that came into the team.

“They were fantastic and worked hard for each other and closed down.

“We’ve got to be more clinical, but to say that we went there and played the way we did and dominated the game made me really proud of them.”

He added: “It’s a start for us, we are playing with confidence, but we’ve got to keep it going.

“It’s important that we take this form into the league and we can now look forward to the Swindon game.”
