Notts County players and staff visited the Nottingham Blood Donation Centre yesterday.
Jon Stead and Stanley Aborah, along with members of the coaching and administrative staff, all made donations to help patients in need.Neil Simms, NHS Blood and Transport’s senior marketing coordinator, said: "It’s great that the footballers and the staff members from the club have come forward.
“We really appreciate their support and we hope to see more staff and Notts County fans here to donate soon.
“We’re always looking for more people to come, especially new donors to replace those that can no longer give blood.”
Blood donation in Nottingham
- Last year, 24.1% of donors in Nottingham were aged 17-24, and 34.7% were aged 45 or over. In Nottinghamshire as a whole, 20,001 people gave blood
- Half of all donors are over 45 so it’s important that younger people are recruited to donate blood to help meet patient needs now and in the future
- The NHS needs around 200,000 new donors each year to replace those who no longer donate for reasons such as ill health, pregnancy or foreign travel and to ensure they have the right mix of blood groups to match patient needs in the future
- Around 6,000 donations are needed every day to meet the needs of patients in England
- The NHS needs more people from black African, black Caribbean, mixed race, Arab and South Asian heritage to become blood donors to reflect the ethnic diversity of patients
