Go there believing

25 November 2016

Notts County manager John Sheridan is expecting a difficult test ahead of the trip to Barnet in Sky Bet League Two.

County have won five of their eight away games in the league so far this season and will hope to build on that impressive record when they travel to The Hive.

And the boss is looking forward to pitting his wits against former Magpies boss Martin Allen.

"I like Martin and I get on with him well," Sheridan said. "He does a good job and gets his players pumped up for games.

"They had an excellent result at Plymouth in midweek and have John Akinde on form. He's a handful and one of the best strikers in the league.

"It will be a tough game for us but we'll go there believing we can get something. We'll go there fighting."

Meanwhile, the manager is hopeful that striker Jon Stead will be back in action for the first team within a fortnight.

Stead, 33, is County's top goalscorer with nine goals in 14 appearances but has been out of action since mid-October with an ankle injury.

Sheridan said: "Jon has joined in first-team training for the first time since he suffered his injury.

"He is champing at the bit to get back and coming along fine.

"We're looking at another eight to 10 days of training before the Peterborough game so we will have to see how he progresses.

"I don't know whether or not he will play against Chesterfield in the reserve game next Tuesday."
