Our signing of Macaulay Langstaff from Gateshead for an undisclosed fee will go down as one of the best pieces of transfer business in the club's history.

The 2021-22 National League North top scorer and Player of the Season arrived at Meadow Lane in red-hot form having bagged 32 goals and claimed 14 assists as Gateshead won the league title.

However, no-one could have predicted the 42-goal haul which would follow in his debut season at Meadow Lane as he broke the following records:

  • Most goals scored by a Notts player in a season (bettering Tom Keetley's 39)
  • Most goals scored in a National League season (bettering Ricky Miller's 40)

Unsurprisingly, Langstaff was named Fans' and Players' Player of the Season - not only due to his incredible goals return, but also his hugely influential work off the ball which saw him pressing intently from the front from first minute to last.

Hailing from Stockton-on-Tees, Langstaff impressed in the amateur game and earned opportunities with Billingham Synthonia, Blyth Spartans and York City before making his mark at Gateshead.
