Welcome: Steve Collis

New goalkeeper coach arrives

5 June 2024

We have welcomed Steve Collis as our new goalkeeper coach.

Collis joins us from Oldham Athletic and brings extensive EFL experience having previously held the same role at Rochdale and Carlisle United.

He said: “I’m delighted to be here ahead of such an exciting season for the club and I’m really looking forward to meeting the keepers and getting to know all the players when they return for pre-season training at the end of the month.

“I’d also like to place on record my gratitude to Oldham Athletic, where there are very positive signs for the future. I wish the club all the very best.

“I’ve known Stuart Maynard since we were apprentices at Watford 27 years ago and we’ve kept in touch ever since, especially in recent years with Oldham and Wealdstone facing each other in the National League. He’s a fantastic coach and I’m really excited to be working alongside him.”

Collis tasted success in his first season as a full-time goalkeeper coach as Rochdale were promoted to League One in 2013-14.

Dale maintained their third-tier status for the remainder of Collis’ seven-year stay, finishing in the top 10 on three occasions, before he moved on to Carlise and then Oldham ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Maynard added: “Steve has built a really good reputation for developing goalkeepers at every club he’s been at, and that kind of experience is really important to us.

“Knowing Steve as I do and having spoken to a number of players who’ve worked with him, we feel he ticks a lot of boxes in terms of the way we want him to work.

“Steve has come up against us for Oldham so knows exactly how we play and what we want from our goalkeepers – and we’ve already had conversations with him about tactical approach.

“I’d also like to congratulate Jane Jackson on her promotion to Head of Sports Science, and James Pidcock on his appointment as First Team Analyst.

“Jane, who’s been with the club for a number of years now, has really impressed us with her work ethic and the respect she holds within the squad, while James made a fantastic impression as an intern last season.

“We’re very happy with the backroom staff we have in place and we’re all really looking forward to pre-season.”
