In memory: Adam Johnson

Tributes to be paid to Panthers player

4 November 2023

In memory of Nottingham Panthers player Adam Johnson, supporters will be encouraged to participate in a minute’s applause during Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup match against Crawley Town.

At what will also be our annual remembrance fixture, the applause will take place in the 47th minute of normal time (second half), a reference to Adam’s squad number, and will provide everyone in attendance with the opportunity to pay their respects following his tragic passing at the weekend.

In addition, a minute’s silence will be held before kick-off in tonight’s FA Youth Cup match against Lincoln City at Meadow Lane.

Our chief executive, Joe Palmer, said: “Everyone at Notts County is devastated by the tragic loss of Adam Johnson and wishes to extend their heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends.

“At such a deeply upsetting time, we also send our support to the Panthers family – Adam’s team-mates, colleagues, supporters and everyone affected by the incident. We can’t begin to imagine how difficult a time this must be for them.

“The Panthers add so much to Nottingham’s rich sporting tapestry and, as we have seen in recent days, all of the city’s clubs and organisations are united in their grief for Adam.

"We sometimes take for granted the commitment our athletes make in relation to the risk involved every time they walk into the sporting arena, wherever that may be.

“We as clubs, alongside our leagues and associations, put in place measures to make our games as safe as possible, but this tragic accident is an unfortunate reminder that, no matter how hard we try, the nature of the sports our fans and athletes all love so much can sometimes lead to tragic consequences.

“Tonight’s silence and Saturday’s applause will give us the opportunity to honour Adam’s contribution to the city’s close-knit sporting community, both as a player and person, and he and his loved ones will continue to be in our thoughts thereafter.”
