Scott seals victory

22 July 2023

Cedwyn Scott’s neat finish handed us victory in our fifth pre-season friendly of the summer.

The forward turned home a Jim O’Brien cross midway through the second as a dominant display was rewarded with victory.

The opening 45 minutes proved to be a quiet affair, with the 1,042 in attendance having to wait until the 23rd minute for the first real chance of the game – Aaron Nemane seeing a first-time effort smothered by Cameron Gregory at his near post.

Jodi Jones sent a free-kick into the side-netting and Kyle Cameron blocked a shot at the end of a rare Pilgrims attack before the referee called time on the opening period.

We emerged for the second half unchanged but made a double swap on 55 minutes, Dan Crowley and Geraldo Bajrami replacing Jodi Jones and Tobi Adebayo-Rowling.

And Crowley had a chance to score shortly after his introduction, volleying O’Brien’s cross over from near the penalty spot.

But O’Brien wasn’t to be denied an assist as, moments later, he was played to the byline by Nemane before seeing his cross side-footed home by Scott.

Lots of changes followed as Luke Williams continued to hand minutes to as many players as possible.

Macaulay Langstaff was among those introduced and he could have added a second when he was played in brilliantly by Aidan Stone, but he couldn't round Gregory and the final chance of the game was gone.

STARTING XI: Stone; Chicksen (Mahovo 76'), Cameron (Cisse 76'), Rawlinson (Brindley 76'), Adebayo-Rowling (Bajrami 55'); Palmer (Bostock 76'), O'Brien (McGregor 76'), Austin (McGoldrick 76'); Jones (Crowley 55'), Nemane (Munakandafa 76'); Scott (Langstaff 76')
