Player of the Month: Cameron

Defender scoops December prize

9 January 2023

Club captain Kyle Cameron has been named the Vanarama National League’s December Player of the month.

The marauding defender led us to victory in all four of our league matches and, while his performances were defensively astute, his impact at the opposite end of the pitch is what really caught the eye.

He was particularly influential in our dramatic 4-3 victory at Maidenhead, where he provided no fewer than three assists – including a sensational run and cross for Macaulay Langstaff to score the winner.

Cameron followed up with another assist in our next game against Gateshead, nodding the ball on to a plate for Ruben Rodrigues to double our lead.

And the Geordie linked up with the Portuguese to great effect in our Boxing Day demolition of Oldham, watching on as his dangerous cross was eventually turned home by Rodrigues before playing a delightful crossfield pass for the playmaker to nod down for Cedwyn Scott to score.

Head coach Luke Williams said: “We’re delighted that Cammy’s huge contribution at both ends of the pitch has been recognised in this way.

“As our fans will know, we expect our players to contribute to all aspects of the game regardless of their position and Kyle is a great example of someone who has really embraced that and thrived under the creative freedom we’ve given him.

“He’s a joy to watch when he’s in full flow and has tremendous quality in his delivery. Combined with all his defensive attributes, he’s a huge asset for us and a great fit for how we want to do things.”

Cameron is the second player to have scooped the monthly prize this season after Langstaff became the first in history to win it in consecutive months.
