Signing: Scott Robertson

Midfielder agrees January move

29 December 2023

We have agreed the signing of midfielder Scott Robertson on a free transfer from Fleetwood Town.

The 22-year-old signs a two-and-a-half year deal at Meadow Lane and will be eligible to play for us from Saturday 13 January, when we visit Grimsby Town.

Robertson is a graduate of Celtic’s academy and, after picking up League One experience with loan spells at Gillingham, Crewe Alexandra and Doncaster Rovers, where he played alongside John Bostock, Bhoys legend Scott Brown signed him for Fleetwood in January 2023.

In his time on the Lancashire coast Robertson, who made one Europa League appearance for Celtic, has taken his tally of League One appearances to 75 and Richard Montague, who sits on our board and leads on recruitment, is delighted to welcome him to Nottingham.

He said: “It will come as no surprise to supporters that, after losing Geraldo Bajrami and Matt Palmer to long-term injuries, central midfield has been a key area of focus for us heading into the transfer window.

“Scott has huge potential but also possesses significant experience from the level above, making us confident that he can have a big impact between now and the end of the season.

“His ability on the ball makes him an excellent fit for the deeper midfield role and we’re really impressed with his athleticism and work-rate, which will benefit us both in and out of possession.

“We also believe that, at 22, he adds balance in terms of age to the midfield area which is a positive for us in the short and long term.

“Similarly to Lewis Macari, we think Scott has made a fantastic decision for his own development and we can’t wait to see how he progresses.”

The club’s playing philosophy was one of many appealing factors for Robertson, who said: “I’ve been waiting a while to be part of a team that sets up like Notts.

“I like to take responsibility for the ball and look to pass it forward. I also enjoy getting around the pitch and doing the other side of the game.

“I’m really excited to help my team-mates continue to implement the gaffer’s style, which has proven to be successful.

“I’ve had a good chat with him and I really appreciate his intensity and level of detail. I know there’ll never be any grey areas when I go over the white line, which is a big help.

“It’s a proper football stadium and a big club - I can’t wait to get going in front of the fans.”

Robertson will wear squad number 20.
