Leicester 1-2 Notts

Mitchell and Baldwin make it two wins from two

9 July 2022

Kairo Mitchell and Aden Baldwin were both on the scoresheet as we recorded an impressive pre-season victory away at Leicester City.

On a blisteringly hot day at the Foxes' incredible training facility, we went a goal down when Harvey Barnes capitalised on a one-on-one in the first half.

But Mitchell's poacher's effort restored parity before the break, leaving the stage set for Baldwin to head home the winner in the second half.

Luke Williams' starting XI were given 60 minutes to impress and they looked assured against a City side containing the likes of Patson Daka, Ricardo Pereira, Hamza Choudhury and Wesley Fofana.

But it was another first-team regular, Barnes, who gave the hosts the lead when his side pounced on a misplaced pass and released him to score past Sam Slocombe.

It didn't take us long to respond, however, Mitchell seeing a shot tipped wide before scoring from the resultant corner, capitalising on City keeper Daniel Iverson spilling the cross.

Mitchell came within inches of putting us ahead after the break, sliding in to meet McGregor's excellent cross but arriving just too late to turn the ball home.

Kyle Cameron then saw a header well saved from Ed Francis' free-kick in the final action before Williams made a raft of changes.

Two players to enter the fray were Adam Chicksen and Tobi Adebayo-Rowling, and moments after their introduction the former supplied a sensational cross for the latter. Substitute keeper Jakub Stolarczyk made an excellent save at his near post to keep his side level.

But we got the second goal we deserved on 78 minutes when Roberts swung in the perfect free-kick for Baldwin to score with a commanding header.

As expected, the hosts came on strong towards the end with Tiernan Brooks making a good save from Ethan Fitzhugh, Kelchi Iheanacho hitting the post and Wanya-Marcal Madavidua bending a shot over.

But there was to be no equaliser for the Foxes as we made it back-to-back wins following Tuesday's success at Basford.
