Burchnall: Match Tuesday's intensity

Ian's challenge to players ahead of Barnet trip

7 May 2021

Ian Burchnall wants to see his side ‘match the intensity’ they showed in Tuesday’s dramatic victory over Sutton United when we visit Barnet this weekend.

A breathless encounter with the south London outfit saw us emerge 3-2 winners despite going down to 10 men when Dion Kelly-Evans received a second yellow card 20 minutes from time.

And, while Burchnall anticipates a different challenge at the Hive, he expects the players to replicate their midweek energy levels.

“We have to find a way of matching the intensity we showed against Sutton when we’re playing against teams who sit lower and slow the game down,” said the head coach.

“There have been times when we’ve started with that intensity but, when we haven’t got the goal, we’ve dropped off and the momentum’s changed.

“We’ve got to keep pushing it and that has to come from everybody.”

Lewis Knight and Alex Lacey are both major injury doubts, while Kelly-Evans will serve his one-game suspension.

Jim O’Brien is closer to a return, although whether Saturday comes too soon remains to be seen, while Damien McCrory is showing encouraging signs in training as he eases his way back into action.
