Rodrigues voted Player of the Season

Portuguese playmaker picks up prize

22 June 2021

Supporters have voted for Ruben Rodrigues as their 2020-21 Player of the Season.

The Portuguese playmaker provided plenty of excitement in his debut campaign and scooped May’s Vanarama National League Player of the Month award after scoring seven goals and claiming a number of assists as we stormed towards the play-offs.

Rodrigues was a crucial figure once again in our dramatic victory over Chesterfield before levelling up our semi-final tie at Torquay with an excellent header.

And his overall contribution, which saw him finish the campaign on 13 goals, proved enough for him to scoop 20.6% of the closely-contested vote – as well as the Young Pies’ Player of the Season award!

Kyle Wootton, meanwhile, has won the Players’ Player of the Season and Golden Boot awards for the second successive campaign.

Having shared last year’s player-voted award with Connell Rawlinson, Wootton was a clear winner this time around thanks to his selfless work up front and his 19-strong goal tally.

Despite there being a number of strong candidates for Goal of the Season, Elisha Sam’s incredible effort against Oxford City – which many believe should be nominated for this year’s Puskas award – blew all other contenders out of the water, claiming a whopping 61.7% of supporters’ votes.

Finally, there’s well-deserved recognition for Tyreace Palmer whose efforts as captain in our title-winning Under 18s side, along with his rise to first-team prominence, were rewarded with our Official Supporters Association nominating him as the club’s Young Player of the Season.
