Youngsters win Matt Salmon Trophy

Back-to-back wins over Stags for Under 18s

3 February 2021

Over the past fortnight our Under 18s have competed with Mansfield Town for the Matt Salmon Trophy.

The trophy is played for in memory of physio Matt, who worked for both clubs prior to his tragic death aged 25 following a battle with cancer

Due to games being postponed and rescheduled over the season as a result of the pandemic, the home and away games were played within a two-week period with the first being hosted by Mansfield.

In extremely difficult weather conditions where the snow fell constantly throughout the game, we put in an excellent performance and ran out 3-0 winners, claiming the trophy which was presented to captain Tyreace Palmer on behalf of the team.

The return fixture was then hosted by us when, after a stoppage time winner, we again won the game 2-1 to retain the trophy.

We are extremely proud to compete for the trophy each year and in a game that means so much to both teams.

We would like to say a big thank you to the NCFCOSA for arranging the engraving of the trophy and also to Charlie Foggs of Beeston for carrying out the engraving.
