Football v homophobia

Designated fixture this weekend

25 February 2021

Saturday’s Buildbase FA Trophy quarter-final against Oxford City will be our annual Football v Homophobia fixture.

The match falls within LGBT+ history month and, to show our support for the LGBT+ community, our corner flags and captain’s armband will be rainbow-coloured.

In addition, our LGBT+ Pies supporters’ group have organised a pre-match Zoom chat for any supporters who would like to know more about the amazing community they have built since their inception six years ago. The call will begin at 2pm on Saturday and, if you’d like to get involved, please contact Ste Grocock on lgbtpies@gmail.com or via LGBT+ Pies’ social media accounts. Alternatively, you can contact our supporter liaison officer alice.kelk@nottscountyfc.co.uk for more information.

“The last year has been tough for so many, including our members who haven’t had the chance to socialise in the normal matchday environment,” said Ste, who co-founded the LGBT+ Pies group.

“When the club shows support for its LGBT+ fans and staff this illustrates that all fans are equal and demonstrates why we are such a success as a community club.

“We would like to thank Notts for their ongoing commitment to LGBT+ Pies and fan engagement. We look forward to working together with them and the Notts County Foundation for many years to come.”

LGBT+ Pies continue to attend conferences (albeit virtually due to current circumstances) and pride festivals in the city.

They also liaise with supporters to improve the matchday experience and help LGBT+ people feel more comfortable in a stadium environment, removing discrimination and prejudice based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
