Don Masson autobiography

Enjoy the story of a club legend

28 October 2020

The autobiography of midfield maestro Don Masson, the fans' choice as Notts County’s ‘Best Ever Player’ after he inspired our remarkable climb from the Fourth Division to the First, will be available from our club shop from Thursday.

Still Saying Sorry, priced £20, is the compelling story of a man still haunted by the fact that he missed a penalty against Peru in 1978, playing for Scotland in the World Cup Finals in Argentina.

There’s a fascinating insight into life at the top in London when he starred in the Queen’s Park Rangers team that finished as runners-up to Liverpool but most of all, it deals with his epic achievements in three spells at Meadow Lane.

We were 91st in the Football League when he joined us from Middlesbrough. By the time he retired, we were comfortably positioned in the top flight and Masson had become the first player ever to captain the same club to three promotions.

This brutally honest autobiography deals full on with what he describes as the “horrible” side of his character, and how personal tragedy and becoming a Christian drastically changed his life.

Still Saying Sorry will introduce you to the Don Masson that few people know - a very private man who always tried to shy away from publicity. Now he feels ready to tell his story and it’s compulsive reading, especially for fans who grew up in the era of Jimmy Sirrel and Jack Dunnett.

Supporters can purchase their copy or collect their pre-order between 9am - 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays and 9am - 1pm on Saturdays. The book can also be ordered online or by calling 0115 955 7200.
