News on Bagan, McCrory, Booty and Wilson

7 July 2020

Joel Bagan has resumed his loan spell at Meadow Lane due to an injury to Damien McCrory, while there is also news on Regan Booty and Scott Wilson.

McCrory recently underwent successful surgery on a knee injury but the play-offs will come slightly too soon for him, prompting Bagan’s return from Cardiff City.

Booty, meanwhile, has suffered a recurrence of the back problem which troubled him earlier in the season and he has also been ruled out of contention.

There is good news on Wilson, though, who has signed a short-term deal with us following his release by Oldham Athletic.

Both Bagan and Wilson have been training with the club and are in good shape to contend for their place when we welcome either Yeovil Town or Barnet to Meadow Lane on Saturday 25 July.

Our manager Neal Ardley said: “Damien was working really hard and building up his running to come back but started to get some pain in his knee. Maybe it was a wrong step on one of his runs, which can happen, and it got worse so we arranged a scan to assess the damage. Unfortunately, he had a slight tear to his meniscus which rules him out of the play-offs, but he’ll be fine for next season.

“We’ve spoken to Cardiff, the FA and Joel and everyone’s really keen for him to come back in. He’s kept himself fit and has looked good in the running. Hopefully he’ll push for his spot.

“Regan’s back has flared up and unfortunately he’s been unable to train. It’s been a really frustrating season for him with injury and we’re giving him the best possible care we can given the circumstances. He’s had an MRI scan and we’re waiting for the results.

“With Scott, it was simply a case of us sorting out a couple of administrative issues but that’s all resolved now and we’re glad to have him as part of our squad for the play-offs.

“I’ve said it all along – when it comes to it, the fittest, sharpest and most mentally-ready players will be the ones who start the game. My team selection will not be influenced by the fact we won our last four prior to lockdown.”
