Another pleasing clean sheet

Lacey proud of defensive stability

18 January 2020

Alex Lacey was pleased to extend our unbeaten run to nine matches following our goalless draw with Dover.

We kept a fifth clean sheet in our last eight games against the Whites – a run that dates back to the centre half’s debut and he’s not missed a minute since.

And, although we didn’t turn one point into three, he was happy with what we produced at the back.

“Defensively we were solid but just couldn’t get it over the line for the win,” he said.

“I think we’re defending well as a team. We’re very switched on and concentrated from set pieces.

“If we can keep the communication and organisation that we have got, hopefully we’ll keep this unbeaten streak going.”

Lacey felt we were unfortunate not to earn the victory and highlighted the importance of staying switched on at the back as we chased the breakthrough.

“Things just didn’t fall our way,” he admitted. “Enzio’s effort off the post rebounded to their players and there were a couple of occasions like that which could have made things different.

“There was a bit of misfortune today – the chances were there but we didn’t take them.

“We can’t complain defensively, though. Dover executed their gameplan well and tried to hit us on the counter so we had to be disciplined and we’ve got another clean sheet.”

And he wants to end the season on a high after settling at Meadow Lane.

“I’ve been very warmly welcomed here,” smiled Lacey.

“We have a very good group of lads and we’re only getting stronger.

“Hopefully we can keep it going and provide a good end to the season, and fingers crossed we get promoted.”
