Neal Ardley was full of praise for the players following our dramatic 2-1 win against Dagenham and Redbridge in the Buildbase FA Trophy.
Kristian Dennis netted his second in the competition before Mitch Brundle pegged us back 14 minutes from time, but a 93rd-minute stunner from Michael Doyle won the day.
And the boss, who made six changes from our big victory against Bromley last week, was delighted with what he saw.
“We were fantastic,” said Ardley. “I thought we deserved the win and played really well today.
“I can’t be any happier with the players. People like Zoumana Bakayogo and Ross Fitzsimons came in and were great.
“Dion Kelly-Evans did as well, and Tom Crawford has a good game, so I’m really pleased for him, too.”
The skipper’s 50-yard winner capped another exemplary performance and Ardley paid tribute to the Irishman.
“Doyle was outstanding, even away from the goal, so he deserves it,” said the boss.
“Coming off the back of the Christmas period you think people might be off the pace, so you need someone like him on the pitch and he covered every blade of grass.
“He’s driven and he has incredible fitness levels. He did the hard yards when he was suspended as a way of punishing himself and that’s why he’s able to cover the ground he does.
“Their goal was offside so I’m kind of disappointed we needed it, but what a way to win the game.”
The captain’s first goal for us means we avoid a replay and head to AFC Fylde on Tuesday night, where the boss might need to make changes as we’re tasked with a three-game week.
“I’ll use the squad because that’s what it’s there for,” added Ardley.
“All the players have done enough to get into my thinking for Tuesday and I’ve already planned how I can use them throughout the week.”
