Into Senior Cup semis

Howes, Palmer and Cummings on target

26 February 2020

A youthful side recorded a 3-1 win at Newark Town on Wednesday night to send us through to the semi-finals of the Nottinghamshire FA Saturday Senior Cup.

We took the lead inside 15 minutes when Alex Howes’ threaded pass put Syme Mulvany clean through on goal and he was brought down by the keeper. Howes made no mistake from the spot.

Corey Bucalossi hit the crossbar as we chased a second, but his involvement at the other end led to the equaliser when his loose touch gave him little choice but to foul Daryl Price. Lewis Chambers converted from 12 yards to level proceedings just before the interval.

After the break, Howes and Palmer each spurned a pair of chances as we sought to regain our advantage and the pair combined as we eventually did.

The former’s neat wing play gave him a shooting opportunity from a tight angle and when his effort cannoned against the upright, it rebounded off the young striker and nestled in the bottom corner.

Kieran Cummings bent home a third from range with 17 to play to put the finishing touches on the victory.

Notts: Brooks, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Betts, Bird, Marshall, Cummings, Wilde (C), Bucalossi, Howes, Mulvany (Snedden 78’), Palmer (Smith 83’).

Subs not used: Simmons, Conway, Irvine.
