MANarama’s September assessment

3 October 2019

National League sponsors MANarama dissect our September and look at what October could hold in store.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…

Feet are being found and suddenly there’s a feeling that things are falling into place. Three wins from four and just one defeat in seven means there’s suddenly a swagger in Notts' step. Told you six play-off places were exciting!

The month’s high point?

It may not have seemed a result to jump for joy at before a ball was kicked this season but the 1-0 home victory over FC Halifax really has got things going. They were flying, the Magpies weren’t, and since then the focus has totally switched.

Low moment?

The defeat at Bromley, and the manner of it. But, let’s be honest - if a narrow loss at the home of the league leaders on 3G is the worst it got in September life's not too bad.

What about the rest in September?

It’s only Yeovil they’re all talking about this month, aren’t they? Well that’s not too far from the truth but others aren’t doing too badly. The month’s second form team are Barrow, they’ve won five from five and are on their best run for 51 years. Dagenham still haven’t lost since forever and Harrogate are also on the rise.

Notts’ star man?

Damien McCrory has been great, especially towards the end of the month. Kyle Wootton must be in with a shout thanks to his three goals.

How do things compare with last September?

It was a five-point return from five games in September 2018, but 12 goals went in the Notts net meaning just one victory was forthcoming.

Attendance checker…

Thanks to more than 9,000 popping by last weekend, the season’s average is now up to 5,670 - making the club the best supported in the division by nearly 1,000.

What does October look like?

Interesting. First it’s a trip to Dover - they’re going well but have won six of their seven games away from home. Dagenham come next, they haven’t lost since mid-August. Torquay then arrive, and they scored four in the first half at Stockport County last weekend. Then, of course, it’s the big one at Chesterfield.
