Ben Turner was delighted to reward our travelling fans with a last-gasp winner at Ebbsfleet in the Emirates FA Cup.
The defender headed home deep into stoppage time to send us through to round two of the competition with a 3-2 victory at the Kuflink Stadium.
And Turner was thrilled to net his second of the season – and at Ebbsfleet – right in front of our travelling fans.
“It’s nice to do so in front of the supporters who came a long way to watch us, and to send them back with a win,” he smiled.
“I’ve been in the terraces myself and I know what it feels like to watch your side get a late winner – that’s the most enjoyable thing.
“I told the gaffer I wanted to score here again actually. I was only joking but it’s nice to do that.”
Turner’s goal meant we avoid a replay, which would have added another game to our busy schedule.
And given the nature of the match, he was pleased to see it end in our favour.
“It was a ding-dong affair and we get to go home feeling positive after a physical battle,” he said.
“It’s nice to avoid a replay and having to do this again because an extra fixture would be tough to add in and Ebbsfleet are a difficult side to play against.
“The gaffer said to us sometimes it’s about finding a way, and we’re digging results out and want to continue doing that.”
The centre back was also pleased with the way the side responded to falling behind inside 10 minutes to an unstoppable strike from Josh Payne.
“We could do nothing about that goal and had to start again,” added Turner.
“We kept our composure and kept passing the ball on a tough surface.
"Eventually we did enough.”
