Gordon previews Youth Cup clash

Tie to be played on Bonfire Night

4 November 2019

Our Under 18s manager Craig Gordon believes his side’s experience in the qualifying rounds of this season’s FA Youth Cup stands them in good stead for the visit of Scunthorpe United.

Our youngsters had to beat Leicester Nirvana and Basford United to progress to the first-round proper stage, setting up a Meadow Lane tie against the Iron on Bonfire Night (kick-off 7pm).

And Gordon believes those early challenges have helped prepare the boys for the real deal.

“I think those matches have put us in a really good position because the nervousness and anxiety is lessened by the experiences the boys have had,” said Gordon.

“There’s a real positive energy around the players – they’ve been looking really bright and there’s a nice togetherness around the place.

“I think it’s going to be a really good game. Scunthorpe are the in-form team in our league.

“Over the last couple of months they’ve picked up some really positive results, so we’re expecting a tough one.

“But if we can stick to our plan and not let the night affect us in terms of nerves and emotion, we feel we can get a positive result.”

Admission is priced £3 adults and £1 concessions.
