Central League: Mansfield 1-2 Notts

15 January 2019

Notts County's reserves came from a goal behind to beat Mansfield in the Central League.

Steve Chettle's side completed a second-half turnaround thanks to late goals from Sam Osborne and Will Patching after heading into the break behind following Tom Fielding's early strike.

Notts lined up with a four-man midfield with Noor Husin in a holding position while Will Patching, Tom Crawford and Sam Osborne supported the front two of Kion Etete and Nathan Thomas.

Shaun Brisley captained the side from central defence and was partnered by Owen Betts, with Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dan Jones at full back.

Notts had the game's first opening after 10 minutes when Patching curled a free-kick in towards Crawford who rose highest in the box but couldn't get enough power on his header, which was easily saved.

Moments later the hosts took the lead. Brisley wanted too much time on the ball and was dispossessed by Fielding on the edge of the box and the Stags' forward fired low beyond Branislav Pindroch.

As Notts searched for an equaliser, Thomas worked space well on the edge of the box before shooting but his well-struck effort was held.

With half-time approaching, the Magpies were awarded a free-kick 20 yards from goal which Husin stepped up to strike. He beat the wall but also the post and Chettle's side went into the break behind.

Notts started the second period brightly and Patching went close with an ambitious volley after a spell of pressure.

He was within a whisker moments later with the ball deemed to have not crossed the line when it bounced down off the bar after he fired it from range.

The pressure continued and Jones saw an effort drift wide when he got on the end of Osborne's ball in, before Thomas forced a good save out of Wilson after linking well with Husin.

Declan Dunn, Tyreece Kennedy-Williams and Remaye Campbell were introduced around the hour with Jones, Thomas and Husin making way.

The Magpies were piling on the pressure but Mansfield had the next big chance when a fast break gave Riley O'Sullivan the chance to shoot one-on-one but Pindroch denied him.

Corey Bucalossi replaced Etete as the game entered the final 10 minutes and, shortly after Patching sent a dipping effort over, Chettle's side levelled.

Osborne received the ball in space on the right-hand side of the box and fired low across goal into the far corner.

And Notts completed the turnaround in the game's dying stages as Patching curled a beautiful free-kick over the wall which left Wilson helpless.

Starting XI: Pindroch, Jones, Brisley (C), Betts, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thomas, Husin, Crawford, Patching, Osborne, Etete.

Subs: Culverwell (unused), Kennedy-Williams, Bucalossi, Dunn, Campbell.
