Osborne scores in reserves defeat

Seven in seven now for winger

5 February 2019

Sam Osborne notched his seventh goal in as many matches as Notts County’s reserves were beaten away at Wigan.

The Championship outfit ran out 4-1 winners with the Magpies' winger bagging a late consolation.

And, while he was pleased to see Osborne continue his scoring form, Steve Chettle says the outcome could have been different had Notts taken more of their chances.

“We speak about it in the first team and I’ve spoken about it to the boys today – matches are won and lost in each penalty area,” said Chettle.

“If we took our chances today we’d have won a goalfest.

“It’s positive that Sam’s got another goal – even though he could have had three or four after getting himself into some great positions – and to have Andy Kellett, Matt Tootle, Dan Jones, Declan Dunn and Alex Howes out there was good, too.

“Alex has had three hamstring strains already this season so I’ve told him he has to be patient. This was his first half-hour for three months and we’ve got to make sure he’s OK.”

Notts: Culverwell, Tootle, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Bird, Jones, Husin, Dunn, Patching, Osborne, Kellett (Howes), Campbell (Etete).

Unused subs: Brooks, Betts, Wilde.
