The Vanarama first fortnight

Notts are finding their feet and showing they mean business, according to league sponsors Vanarama

20 August 2019

Vanarama have been busy assessing the season so far - and what’s ahead!

Story so far…

Notts are feeling their way nicely into their new surroundings and after a challenging first few games fans have every right to be excited once again.

So what’s changed?

Two very good recent performances. After early teething problems, only to be expected under the circumstances, the club are starting to stamp some authority on their new division. Confidence is growing - and quickly.

From the manager’s office...

Neal Ardley may not say it, but there are hints a corner is beginning to be turned. After Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Wrexham he said: “The fans clapped us off - it was a really good performance. The last two performances have been better and if we keep playing like that, we’ll be competitive at the least.”

Biggest result so far...

Result? At Harrogate last week. It is the only win so far but against Wrexham - one of the title favourites - the fans saw without much argument the best performance since the first ball was kicked.

Stat attack...

League position: 17th

Home goals for: 3

Away goals for: 2

Home goals against: 4

Away goals against: 1

What the fans say….

The Twitter comments are always easier to read after a good performance, and following Sunday’s superb showing there were plenty of good things being said.

@BenMellor07 posted: “The lads played their best game of the season so far just very unlucky with the goal.”

“Very encouraging performance, lots of positives to come out of it - we played with heart,” wrote @jayhum65.

So what’s up next?

It’s a trip to Ebbsfleet United, who have lost five from five. A Notts win and already the top seven comes into sight.

Their one to watch….

Fleet may be bottom but they have some good players, so this won’t be a gimme. Myles Weston is their key man. They were very unlucky up at leaders Solihull Moors last weekend.

What can travelling fans expect?

A ground which fuses old-school Non-League football with the modern world. Their new main stand is very impressive while the other three sides of Stonebridge Road are packed with history. Notts fans will be behind the goal - and will hope the expected heat wave arrives on time!

Haven’t we met before…

Yes, but a while ago. Back in 2003 in the FA Cup when Notts ground-out a 2-1 win in Kent.

League sponsors Vanarama have recently launched the National League Club Reward scheme to help fans back their club’s budget. Every time a fan takes out a brand new van lease with Vanarama or a brand new car lease with Mototama their club will earn £100 and you will receive £30 cashback!
