Ardley has options for meeting with Red Dragons

Neal Ardley says he has decisions to make regarding his Notts County team selection ahead of Sunday’s clash with Wrexham.

After recording their first win of the season at Harrogate on Tuesday night, the Magpies host the Welsh outfit for their fifth game in 15 days.

And with Damien McCrory and Michael Doyle both available for selection again following their respective suspensions, Ardley has plenty to think about.

“Those two have both trained excellently and at a high intensity to make sure that when they get on the pitch they are ready to go,” said the boss.

“I’ve got a few decisions to make around whether to bring people back in or stick with the same team.

“The lads who have played Saturday-Tuesday for the last fortnight might feel great but that block of matches might have taken its toll so I need to decide whether to freshen it up.

“We want people fighting for the shirt and we didn't have that at the start of the season – that's the beauty this weekend.”

The gaffer is looking for some consistency from his side as they seek to build some momentum.

“We don’t want to win one and then lose the next,” explained Ardley. “We want to stick a couple of results together.

“Two wins on the spin would be fantastic because that’s the kind of thing that builds momentum and takes that bit of pressure off.

“We’re looking to get that double bounce, but we at least want to have a run without getting beat.”

Ardley expects Wrexham, who reached the play-offs last season, to provide a tough test at Meadow Lane on Sunday.

“They are a very good team who play good football,” he added. “They’re a side you expect to be in the mix.

“We need to look at what we’re not doing well – although we won a game, we’re not a fantastic team at the moment.

“A win makes a huge difference, though, and we’d love another – it’d be nice to send our fans home from Meadow Lane happy because it hasn’t happened very often.”
