Everything was wrong

Ardley assesses Crewe defeat

13 April 2019

Notts County manager Neal Ardley admitted ‘everything was wrong’ about his side’s performance against Crewe Alexandra.

The Magpies suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Alexandra Stadium and Ardley had no qualms with the result.

"I can’t defend the performance,” he said. “Everything was wrong.

“We weren’t a team, like we have been recently. We became 11 individuals who weren’t on the same page.

“We were awful in every shape and form. I could go to town on the players and start blaming them, but that’s a load of rubbish. The buck stops with me.

“The boys have been fighting hard and none of them want this to end badly. They’re doing their best but, at times, they’re not good enough.

“We’ve got four games to go and the players need leadership. They need me to step up and refocus them, like I did after Cheltenham. We were awful there and we bounced back at Carlisle. We’ve got to do that again.

“I have to make sure they keep the belief, train hard in the week and step up against one of the best teams in the league (MK Dons) on Friday, like they did against Lincoln and Mansfield.”
